Generalized Curvilinear Coordinates in Hybrid and Electromagnetic Codes

چکیده
This paper describes the elements for writing hybrid and electromagnetic plasma simulation codes in generalized curvilinear coordinates. The coordinate system is described by a table giving the three-dimensional Cartesian coordinate positions of a structured curvilinear coordinate mesh. The paper shows how to calculate the geometric coefficients of the differential operators describing the electromagnetic field and how to calculate the motion of particles across the curvilinear grid. In addition, a new algorithm for calculating the particle current sources for the electromagnetic field is described that conforms naturally to the curvilinear grid. Measures are described for checking and ensuring accuracy of the code. Extension of the methods for multiple, discontinuously joined coordinate patches is also outlined.

The Solution of Laminar Incompressible Flow Equation with Free Surfaces in Curvilinear Coordinates
In this paper a novel numerical approach is presented for solving the transient incompressible fluid flow problems with free surfaces in generalized two-dimensional curvilinear coordinate systems. Solution algorithm is a combination of implicit real-time steps and explicit pseudo-time steps. Governing fluid flow equations are discretized using a collocated finite-volume mesh. Convective terms a...

متن کاملNote on transformation to general curvilinear coordinates for Maxwell's curl equations
Maxwell’s curl equations are formulated in curvilinear non-orthogonal coordinates in three dimensions in a manner that enables to preserve conventional Cartesian mesh for the finite-difference schemes by means of mere redefinition of the permittivity and permeability coefficients. It is highlighted that in the previous works on this subject (Ward and Pendry 1996 J. Modern Opt. 43 773; 1998 Phys...
متن کاملGeneralized Curvilinear Advection Formalism for Finite Volume Codes Doing Relativistic Hydrodynamics
While it is possible to numerically evolve the relativistic fluid equations using any chosen coordinate mesh, typically there are distinct computational advantages associated with different types of candidate grids. For example, astrophysical flows that are governed by rotation tend to give rise to advection variables that are naturally conserved when a cylindrical mesh is used. On the other ha...
متن کاملTransforming Geocentric Cartesian Coordinates to Geodetic Coordinates by a New Initial Value Calculation Paradigm
Transforming geocentric Cartesian coordinates (X, Y, Z) to geodetic curvilinear coordinates (φ, λ, h) on a biaxial ellipsoid is one of the problems used in satellite positioning, coordinates conversion between reference systems, astronomy and geodetic calculations. For this purpose, various methods including Closed-form, Vector method and Fixed-point method have been developed. In this paper, a...
